The peaceful location, both the hotel itself and its surroundings. The staff were very welcoming and warm. There were a lot of public, open areas to relax (bar, dining area, outdoor walking area, onsen). They were growing blueberries as well!
The wooden sculptures throughout the hotel were beautiful (turns out they have a full gallery in their main ryokan).
Tsuruga is a big name in Hokkaido ryokan and have multiple branches so can expect the quality to be up there.
The dinner (French) was not worth it in my opinion; while nice, unique...there was no outstanding feature for the price we paid. Breakfast was part ala carte (main) and part buffet, which I found was a better spread.
Onsen itself was nice and had an indoor and outdoor area (though, the walls block any views).
I would love to try Tsuruga's other ryokans that lean towards the more traditional and Japanese aesthetics and food, as that is my personal preference.

Almost everything.
There was fireplace in bar.
They need to start the draft on the fireplace. Otherwise it gets a little smoky in there.

Spacious. Clean. Friendly staff.
Food was average. Minimal wine list options. Not worth the cost. Out of town.
