Nest Natur Hostel

I booked a bed in a dormitory a day in advance, but was assigned a single room instead—and for the same price! It was a great room with a comfortable bed in a quiet area. I shared two showers and two toilets with just two other rooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Ideally located just a three-minute walk from an S-Bahn station; since the station is just within Vienna's central zone, you can buy a day or weekly public transport pass for unlimited travel on trains, subways, trams, and buses. Communication with the owner via email and WhatsApp was easy. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

It is convenient for the city as the Schnellbahn train is frequent, the distance into Vienna is short, and the Schnellbahn cost is included in the - very modest - public transport cost for travel within Vienna. The Auhof shopping centre is just a few yards up the road from the hostel so you can get a breakfast there, at one of the bakeries, or you can breakfast at Westbahnhof station when you go into the city. The location itself is quiet and pleasant.

There is a bistro under the hostel but it was closed all the time I was there, so there was nowhere nearby to eat in the evening. The downside to the hostel is that there are no staff there, and communicating with someone before arriving or booking was extremely difficult as they almost never answer the phone. Also, I didn't like the way they signed the emails coming through booking.com with English names such as "James" or "Emma" when clearly whoever was doing the administration was not English, and clearly not even Austrian. This is deceptive and therefore not conducive to a trustful exchange.
