Hotel Courtland

Excellent location and really decent rooms small as all Japanese hotel rooms are but very clean

There was nothing to dislike. It was all good.

If you have stayed in a Japanese business hotel before, you know what you're getting. The rooms are small, but for the price there is nothing to complain about in regards to that, and everything is comfy enough. The breakfast was the same every day, but had a decent selection, and was Viking style, so you could have as much as you want. The staff were really friendly when I checked in and gave me a little confidence boost when they realised halfway through that my Japanese was good enough that she could switch languages. Aside from that I only really interacted with them at breakfast, but there were no complaints there. Finally, the location is ideal. You're literally across the road from the train station and also within walking distance of an area with plenty of good restaurants and bars. Even somewhere like Zenkoji is only 20 to 30 minutes walk away (although there is public transport, too). You couldn't really be in a more convenient spot.

The rooms are a bit dated and there were some stains on the carpet. Even at the highest setting the air con kept my room cool rather than cold and there wasn't much in the way of thrills in the room. In most places you at least get a bottle of water! Still, there were no real complaints.

Great location!

Bathtub was not secure to the floor or wall. It moved around while showering. Bed/pillows/comforter was not comfortable, but overall good value for money.
