What a beautifully presented, cosy, compact cottage in the quiet village of Gilwern. We used it as a base for exploring the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park and South Wales, which was ideal for us. As others point out, a very short and simple drive to bigger towns such as Abergavenny and Abertillery (for our essential Tesco supplies). The village has a couple of pubs and a fish and chip shop (Note: cash only). Beds were comfy, functional (but small) kitchen and really good shower with an instant boiler providing good pressure hot water. Really appreciated having a space on the driveway of the next door property, given the on-street parking spaces are time-limited bays.

Sadly there were a few slight letdowns. First was the cleanliness. Yes, we were fully aware the property is dog friendly, but the sheer amount of dog hair in the carpet and on the sofa in particular was a little offputting given the cottage should be cleaned between bookings. And the pull out sofa bed was also not clean. Talking of the sofa bed, despite us saying 3 people on the booking, there was no bedding left out for the sofa bed so we had to find it ourselves in the cupboard (and what we found was dusty). Moving focus now to the kitchen, as others pointed out there was no microwave so we expected that. No storage space in the kitchen either, so that rather limited what we could buy and cook.

Beware if disabled-advert does not say- Step up to front door, step up to kitchen and step out of kitchen door to patio, which I went flying over. Tight, steep stairs and no downstairs bathroom. Not really suitable for disabled people. Car parking was for house next door as well so was quite tight. Landlord owned next door as well so was really surprised to see what a big garden it had and they had only cordoned off s tiny courtyard for the house we stayed in.

Delightful small terrace house, great size for 2 people. Fairly steep stairs so maybe not suitable if that is a problem. Good, clean fully equipped kitchen. Good clean bathroom with lots of hot water and good shower. Good WiFi and Smart TV. Location is in village centre but little traffic as there is a by-pass so quiet. Easy access to main road to Abergavenny (10 mins) and into Brecon Beacons. 2 good pubs to eat but closed Monday and Tuesday, fish and chip shop closed Monday. Good butchers and village shop.

No microwave - not sure where one could be fitted in. Settee not the most comfortable.

Excellent shower. Comfy bed. Conve nient and pleasant pub. Glorious weather, beautiful and varied scenery. Very clean and tidy.

Hard to find the front door even once you have parked up. Google Maps not much help. The front door is directly opposite the pub.
