Desa Hostel

Staff were the most helpful I've met in Indonesia, which says a lot! Loads of local recommendationa of things to do and extra services are cheap and well-organised - laundry is free, scooter rental and taxi services were the cheapest around. Because the staff are so great, it makes a very friendly environment where it is easy to meet people. The local area is beautiful and way more chill than southern Bali. One of my favourite spots of the whole trip!

Nothing - this hostel was honestly so great and really made my time in Munduk so enjoyable.

I had a lovely stay at this hostel. Everybody was very welcoming, food was really good and bed comfortable! They offer drivers if you can’t rent a scooter and give you tips. I really recommend this place.

I think it’s my favourite hostel I’ve ever stayed at! The staff are kind, chatty, friendly. There’s even a football pitch although I didn’t use it. Hands down the best banana pancake I have EVER had, and I’ve had a lot… so thick and fluffy… and they give fruit and coffee too! Munduk is so beautiful and I’d have stayed here longer if I could have. I ate dinner here most nights, too. The beds are soooo comfortable and curtains give great privacy. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room without a window, and from around 6–7 a.m. the noise from scooters is so loud that sleeping is practically impossible. I strongly advise against booking excursions through this hotel. We arranged transport to Sekumpul Waterfall and clearly stated that we wanted to go only to the official ticket office and would not participate in any illegal arrangements. The staff assured us that everything was safe and under control — which turned out to be false. Upon arrival, the driver intentionally took us to an unofficial ticket point where we were charged 350,000 IDR per person instead of 250,000 IDR at the official office. Only after we discovered the deception, made a video call with the hotel, and reported the matter to the police did we receive the refund of the difference — the driver stopped at a local intermediary’s place on the way back to return the money. I find these practices unacceptable, especially since we explicitly warned the hotel beforehand. They misled us and involved us in a local scam. If you plan to visit Sekumpul Waterfall — do not book transport through this hotel. Verify in advance where the official ticket office is located and react immediately if anything seems suspicious.
