We stayed here as two couples and overall really enjoyed the apartment. It is a beautiful, thoughtfully designed space with a wonderful mix of modern elements and more traditional, almost Parisian-inspired details. The colors are beautiful and calming, and the apartment felt clean and well cared for when we arrived. I especially loved the tall balcony doors overlooking the street below. They give the apartment so much character. For us, the location was one of the biggest advantages. We came to Madrid primarily for the museums and sightseeing, and being so close to the Prado, the Thyssen and many of the other places we wanted to visit was fantastic. There are plenty of restaurants, markets and shopping nearby, and we found the area very walkable. The apartment is a comfortable size for two couples, although the two bedrooms are quite different. The larger bedroom was great, with a king-size bed, ceiling fan and air conditioning. The linens and towels were clean, soft and very nice. The kitchen was well equipped with plates, dishes and pretty much everything we needed. Having a washing machine was also a big plus. The bathroom is beautiful, particularly the shower, but the shower design does present a safety issue that I think should be addressed. The building does have an elevator, which we greatly appreciated, especially with luggage. It is very small—realistically about two people at a time—but we were certainly happy to have it.

The smaller bedroom is quite small and has no air conditioning or ceiling fan. There was a small upright cooling unit, but unfortunately it did very little and the room became stuffy. Interestingly, the smaller bedroom is also the only bedroom with a closet One thing we really missed was an iron and ironing board or even a small clothes steamer. For travelers living out of suitcases, that would be a very useful additionThe bathroom is beautiful, particularly the shower, but the shower design does present a safety issue that I think should be addressed. There is no shower door or curtain, and you step up and over a marble threshold to enter and exit the shower. During a shower, water gets onto both the bathroom floor and the marble thresholdThere were also several places where the wood/engineered flooring had separated slightly. If you stepped on one of those areas in just the wrong way, the flooring could shift under your foot and cause you to lose your balance. We nearly did a couple of times. The biggest negative for us was cigarette smoke. The apartment itself is nonsmoking, which we specifically appreciated, but there was considerable smoking in the apartments on the floors below. The smell traveled through the building and at times into our apartment, and it could be overpowering. It was also very noticeable when using the stairs between floors.Smoking was something we encountered frequently throughout Madrid and elsewhere during our time in Spain, particularly around outdoor restaurant seating, so anyone who is very sensitive to cigarette smoke should be aware of this. Coming from the United States, we were surprised by how prevalent it was. Even across from our otherwise lovely balcony view were dead flower planters being used for cigarette butts. We were also surprised by the amount of litter and discarded cigarette butts we encountered on the surrounding streets.
