El Refugio was a beautiful spot but most important, the people were so welcoming and attended to me like friends. In fact, they became my friends over a short period of time and for my first ever time in Mexico plus my first ever solo trip, they made this whole experience so much better.
I will definitely miss them until next time ;)

"I usually tend to stay in high-end, Western-style hotels, so I admit I have very high standards when it comes to cleanliness. I was looking to step out of my comfort zone for a more natural, local experience off the beaten path, and this place delivered.
El Refugio is new and Marcelo is currently building it out, but the rooms themselves were spotless. As a designer myself, I have to say his style and vision are absolutely on point.
A few things to note: the common areas are a bit more 'raw' and rustic (a little dusty, living in the jungle vibe), and the surrounding area is a little off-putting at first glance. However, it is just a short walk to the city and beach, so it works out perfectly.
Marcelo was fantastic—an all-around great host and very herb-friendly. If you are looking for a unique spot with a great vibe, I highly recommend it."

We had such a lovely week long stay here. The space felt incredibly homey and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The host was kind, inclusive, and genuinely friendly, which made the experience even better. The place was eco-friendly, and it’s clear a lot of care was put into creating a space that’s entirely animal-friendly, mindful of nature and a sanctuary for humans. It felt peaceful, comfortable, and easy to settle into.
It’s located in a quiet area away from the loud nightlife, but still only about a 12-minute walk into the heart of town. We felt safe the entire time and loved having the balance of calm and convenience. We Will absolutely stay again.

This is a little hotel that will take your breath away. It has a salt pool, a gym, a kitchen that you can use even a sauna. The staff make you feel at home all the time.
