The best things here are the very friendly staff, the comfortable common-room seating, and the fastest wifi I have had anywhere in Indonesia so far. Breakfast is good (the coffee is great), but like so much Indonesian food it's too high-fat -- healthier options would be much appreciated.

The property is far enough for the centre that you must rely on motorbikes, either renting and driving one yourself, or using Grab Bikes (Grab does not have cars here). The motorbikes available to rent at the guesthouse are all very old and poorly maintained. I was given one with a nearly-empty fuel tank. After visiting 5 petrol stations that were either out of fuel or had a 5-hour wait, I went back to the guesthouse as the fuel was almost gone and they laughed and said "oh yes, we need to buy it from our neighbour". Gee, couldn't you have told me that BEFORE I spent an hour looking for fuel? Later they were about to book a tour to Rangko Cave for me, but they first told me I would have to drive 30 minutes to the starting point on very hilly roads on one of their bikes (I doubt any of their bikes would have made it), or that I should ride on a mototaxi (again, VERY steep roads). I booked with a travel agent in the centre who provided a van in which I relaxed while getting to know the other people on the tour -- much nicer. In summary, the owners are a bit inexperienced and still learning, but they want to do well and I am confident that they will figure it out.

The homestay is a really lovely place. When you arrive Arief and the others are welcoming you with big smiles and are happy to see you! They even have a lovely golden retriever and a young puppy. We enjoyed our stay, the talks with Arief and all the tips we got for our roadtrip through Flores!

Location is a 10min drive to town by motorbike so you should rent one through the homestay.

The person who took care of us was absolutely lovely—attentive and genuinely helpful, and they gave us great tips for things to do. The price is unbeatable for Labuan Bajo.

Despite the above—and fully aware of how low the price is—I didn’t find the accommodation comfortable, either in terms of the facilities or its distance from the city center. I hate to say it because they’re truly lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re on a very tight budget.
