Wuhan Marriott Hotel Wuchang

We had a room on the 59th floor so this offered great views, though as the weather was dull when we were in Wuhan we were looking across at skyscrapers disappearing into the fog! The hotel occupies the bottom 6 floors and the rooms are on the top dozen floors with business occupants (that have a completely separate entrance and lifts) in the middle. The downside of having staying on such a high floor is that the lift takes a long time for its journey between the rooms and the facilities. There was a also a delay in adjusting the shower temperature because of this. Having direct access to a metro station from the hotel lobby is very useful and that line goes to both Wuhan and Wuchang railway stations. Top marks to the lovely Nepalese girl on their staff who took us to show how to access the metro and buy tickets. The swimming pool on the 6th floor was large and has a lovely view, as does the breakfast room. Breakfast options are mostly Asian but with adequate western options. The restaurant on the 5th floor also has limited options of things a westerner might recognise. By the bed are USB-A sockets and mains power sockets that European 2-pin plugs fit. This is modern China: get used to sharing the lift with a robot doing room service!

We ate a nice snack in the lounge-bar area near the lobby. The food was nice but there was a draught from the air conditioning that was unpleasantly cold. The music in the area was rather too loud to facilitate chatting and not as pleasant as gentle Chinese ambient music found in other places. You need to use Google translate to communicate with most of the staff and Alipay for buying most things.
