Firstly closeness to the metro 150m with access to main line through the city and a supermarket adjacent. We were met and got great info from our host. The apartment was lovely and we had great space for our family party of 5. Thankfully there was a lift as the apartment was on 7th floor.

The apartment seems recently renovated. We liked the uniform and elegant style of the furnishings. Each bedroom and the common kitchen/dining area had effective a/c units. The kitchen is well supplied and its appliances feel new (induction stovetop): we only missed mugs and small plates. Everything is electric. We were met with welcoming treats (water, beer, coffee, cookies). The neighborhood is unattractive: school grounds, lots of graffiti, and three large garbage containers at the front of the building. From the seventh floor the view is uninspiring. There is a large, street-level supermarket in the building, not cheap but well supplied. The metro station is very close but there are no escalators at the top.

The apartment has a major flaw: one cannot run all necessary appliances simultaneously without tripping the power. The flat has a power-limiting meter for which the owner has not contracted sufficient power. This arrangement is common in Europe: the fixed monthly fee depends on the maximum contracted; this encourages cost-saving underestimates. We could only use the stove with one a/c unit running. Most of the rooms remained uncomfortably hot. Neither could we run the oven and the stove, or the toaster and the stove and a/c, without tripping the power. The allowed combinations were unpredictable (as power draw shifted) and encouraged anxious self-limiting – not what you want while on a pleasure trip. When the limiter tripped the breaker, one had to turn it back on at the meter. One time I was in the shower when this happened. The Wi-Fi, which is slow, would shut down and take a long time to recover. This was a constant irritant, inexcusable at this cost. A shame for a place so nicely equipped with electric appliances. The host underestimated our need for kitchen supplies: we ran out of dish soap, but he provided extra dishwasher packs and garbage bags, even if only after two days of what felt like begging. I wondered if he was the same thoughtful person who prepared the welcoming treats. He was not warm but was courteous. The booking.com listing included a clothes dryer. We found none. When we drew his attention to this and asked, he offered an irritated “no dryer” without explanation. In lieu of it, he provided a really small, utterly insufficient drying rack. The building elevator is small and old, with manual inner and outer doors. There is a TV without Netflix.
