Amazing views. Bring your earplugs for music from bar down the hill.

Writing this review to quiet some of the concerns of the previous reviewer… this rental was amazing! First, the views cannot be beat and the outdoor deck living space is just wonderful. It is the highest location in this particular spot of Basti, with amazing views and a breeze. It’s basically a very unique tropical jungle treehouse high above the town. The ACs in the bedrooms work very well and there is consistently hot water, with strong water pressure - things that are hard to find on Basti! There are 77 steps (not “literally 97” like another review mentions) but more than half of them are steps from the road and through a little wooded area. The main staircase up the side of the house is about 30 steps straight up and is sturdy. Small price to pay for the incredible view you get in return. And you’re pretty much always sweating in Basti anyway so not a big deal, haha. Yes, there is a bar on the water that plays very loud music some nights - for us, it was only loud Saturday and Sunday night and we were there for 7 nights. Anywhere you stay in this section of Basti will have this issue too, this is not unique to this rental property. We brought earplugs and that helped tremendously. The place was very clean upon arrival. Yes, bugs are around as it’s a jungle, this is not avoided anywhere on the island.We have been to Basti twice and would stay here again in a heartbeat. It’s a special island, this is a special house, and we had a magical time!

The house has a fantastic view. What was not mentioned is that it is literally 97 steps to get to it. When it rains some of the path way is very muddy. One of the wooden steps is not attached. There are chickens and roosters all around which is entertaining except when the roosters start crowing at 2am. The neighbors blasted music outside of their houses every night we were there which lasted as late as 2am. It was a different house every night with sound equipment set up on the porch. There were towels to use, but literally one bath towel and one beach towel per person. There were no hand towels, washcloths nor kitchen towels. There was only one bath mat even though there was 2 full bathrooms. My standards for cleanliness may be higher than others, as the floors were swept and the linens clean. However, there were dead bugs and debris inside on the counters and in the windows. The beds were comfortable, but there was only one pillow per person. The kitchen area is not air conditioned.
