Domus Carmela

The neighborhood people were so helpful, with an older couple on a balcony directing us to the front door when we first arrived, and a young man helping us with the front door. It made me feel welcome and like they were all watching out for us. Note that this is a fully digital check in experience, so be sure to get the entry instructions before arriving; the instructions were very clear and include photos to help us find our way (nice touch). The room exceeded our expectations. It's part of a suite of 4 rooms with a small common area where the coffee and tea service is. The bed and pillows were high quality memory foam (super comfortable), and the bathroom was modern, clean and on the large side with great water pressure, the a/c worked really well, the decor was crisp and calming, and they put out some pre-packaged pastry and fruit juices for each day in the room, along with jams and nutella. The room was larger than I expected, impeccably clean, and quiet. You pass through 3 locked doors to enter, so you feel very secure. The coffee maker was being fussy one day, so I messaged the host and she replied and took care of the issue immediately- very attentive. I suspect she lives in the building or else very close by. This room was a fantastic respite after long, hot, crowded sight seeing. Very close to the cruise port and all the historic buildings (castle, theater, palace, Grand Cafe, etc). Lots of restaurants and shops within a block or two.

An FYI really-- I liked my stay in the neighborhood, but many would not. Please do your homework about the Spanish Quarter. If you don't and then don't like it, that's on YOU. It's unique, crowded, gritty and authentic. Unlike anywhere else, and we chose to stay here intentionally. There is NO PARKING and you MUST walk to the Domus Carmela from the main street a few blocks below. You cannot drive there, so keep that in mind when booking and consider if you can carry all of your belongings over cobbled streets (there are paid parking garages nearby). Also, it's on the first floor (second floor to Americans) and there is no elevator. This is not an accessible building for people with mobility issues.

Didn't feel super safe for a single woman. I arrived after dark and the street and area is off the beaten path (which makes it quiet) but it was dark.

Very nice location, in the heart of a the spanish quarter.

The bathroom was not as clean as we expected.
