Staying in the heart of the Sassi in Matera was truly a unique and unforgettable experience. Being surrounded by such ancient history, carved into the rock, makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another time.
The atmosphere is simply magical—especially in the early morning and at night, when everything is quiet and beautifully lit. Waking up in the middle of the Sassi is something very special that I would recommend to anyone visiting Matera.
The accommodation itself was comfortable and well-prepared, blending modern amenities with the charm and authenticity of the historic setting. It’s not just a place to stay, but part of the entire Matera experience.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend staying in the Sassi if you want something truly different and memorable.

Great room in a cliffside cave! Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. We'd stay again.

Perfect location if you are driving. You can park out of the ZLT and walk 5-10min to the hotel without having to go up and down the hill. The views from my room were unreal and the receptionist Vivian was super nice with her recommendations
