Our hosts were outstanding. Nothing was too much effort. From ferrying us to and from hikes on the trail, delicious meals including Bento boxes on the trail, trips to decompress to the onsen in late afternoon to washing clothes. They also ensured we didn't get lost whilst forest bathing by requesting periodic 'message' from pre agreed locations. In short Amazing!

Hosts were delightful and helpful. Very convenient for meals (which were great) including lunch packs. Sato-san also was a tour guide taking our group to starting points and pick up points for our hikes. Nice hot bath downstairs Onsen style.
Property is a little run down and men’s bathroom needs better air circulation. But it still has old world charm.

Our hosts were a delightful couple who worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. They picked us up from the train station and also on the day we went hiking showed us where to go, provided maps, dropped us off at the trail head and picked us up at the end. One evening when we had not bought food for dinner beforehand she cooked us a fabulous dinner. The countryside is gorgeous.
Not that we didn’t like this, but visitors should be aware that this area is for skiers in the winter and hikers during other times. After the ski season visitors drop off and many hotels close so there is not much in the way of eating options. We bought food in town to have for dinner most nights. There is a bus that services the area with the town of Iiyama. Pay attention to the bus schedule.
