Sunrise

This is a fabulous building, although as with many places in Morocco it doesn't have a sign, so Good Luck finding it if you are new in town! A local in either Shwarma supermarket, or the cafe on the corner, might help you locate the front door, hidden behind a cash machine. The housekeeper Mariam is a total star. Very warm and welcoming. She showed me my room and the rooftop kitchen with washing machine. She keeps the place spotless, unlike people who stay in the dorms who never clean up their own mess, either in the kitchen or shared bathrooms. Totally selfish vibe. Too many potheads!

All messages I'd sent prior to arrival were ignored. The owner later said he didn't know how he'd missed them and apologised when he politely introduced himself, but it was all too late to be honest. I suggested he give Mariam a raise because she was the only professional person I met at the hostel. Towels are old and grey, although it's obvious they are washed regularly. It wouldn't cost a lot to get some new ones. The bathroom door lock on the 1st floor is broken and was not fixed in the week I stayed. Not the owner's fault, but most people want privacy and it's a small, basic ask. No mugs or cups in the kitchen so I had to buy one. I found, the next day, someone had used my new mug and left it for me to clean. If a list of basic rules, as in "How to share a space with other people" was up on the rooftop wall things might be better. Perhaps. The air conditioner in my double room was ancient, filthy and didn't work. If you book this room, be aware that noise from the main road is deafening. Very hard to sleep but the price reflects this.

Communication with property owners was good

I now know that shared bathrooms are not for me, also having the communal balcony right outside my window because it could get very loud with other guests and traffic and the hotel across the road etc
