Nice clean place, excellent quality mattress and lovely views over the river.

Well… this time I booked the X-ONE Hotel for my wife and our son, mainly because of its excellent central location near the river and the lovely river view. Unfortunately, despite these obvious advantages, the stay turned out to be quite disappointing. Having worked in the tourism and hospitality industry myself for many years, I usually try to look at hotels from both the guest’s and the hotel’s point of view – but in this case, there were some problems that were simply difficult to overlook. First, the positive side: the hotel itself is generally fine, the location is excellent, the river view is lovely, and the price was very competitive – especially considering the benefits of the highest Genius level on Booking.com. Unfortunately, the room was a completely different story. There was an extremely strong smell of cigarette smoke. As my wife is very sensitive to cigarette smoke, the smell was so unpleasant that she was unable to sleep for even a single hour during the night. Not exactly the kind of “night’s rest” one hopes to book at a hotel. 😊 To make matters worse, the room was also very hot because the air conditioning was not working properly. The combination of cigarette smoke, heat and no sleep turned what should have been a pleasant and convenient stay into a very uncomfortable experience. What disappointed me most is that guests apparently smoke in some of the rooms despite the obvious problems this can cause for the next guest. If the hotel cannot guarantee completely smoke-free rooms, reception should at least ask arriving guests whether they are particularly sensitive or allergic to cigarette smoke. I very rarely write negative hotel reviews, because I know very well that things can occasionally go wrong in hospitality. Unfortunately, in this case the problems clearly outweighed the positive aspects. Great location, nice river view and a competitive price – but sadly, a sleepless night is still a sleepless night.
