Mercure Ponta Delgada Azores

The anemities - the pool, the saunas were great (one didn't work though); My meal at the restaurant was great; The room was spacious and very clean; The location is very central, only a two minute walk to large paid parking.

Location to the centre of Ponta Delgada, very friendly staff, comfortable rooms and good breakfast.

Being a four star hotel could have more in the bathroom like body lotion, shower cap etc .

The hotel is modern, new and very pleasant overall. Everything felt clean and well designed, the Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and we appreciated the complimentary stocked minibar included with the Prestige room. The balcony had comfortable seating, although a small drying rack or somewhere to hang wet clothes would have been useful. The pool area was great, and we really enjoyed having the option to eat breakfast outside. Breakfast itself was good, although the selection was quite repetitive. For our five-night stay it was absolutely fine, but for a longer stay, a little more variety would be welcome. The location is excellent and very convenient for exploring Ponta Delgada. If arriving by car, however, I would not recommend driving into the hotel’s inner courtyard. The parking spaces there were usually full anyway, the approach through the narrow streets is not particularly comfortable, and we also noticed that getting out of some of the parking spaces could be quite difficult. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. We spent the following four nights at the Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico, which was supposed to be the more upscale hotel, but in the end we actually regretted not staying at the Mercure for the rest of our trip.

The service was generally a little slow, and the staff did not seem particularly warm or cheerful. We rarely saw anyone smile, which made the atmosphere feel slightly less welcoming than the hotel itself. We ate at the bistro/restaurant once and unfortunately the food was disappointing, especially considering that we only ordered simple toasted sandwiches. We decided not to eat there again during our stay. The biggest disappointment was the shower. Although the bathroom was new and looked beautiful, there was already quite a noticeable amount of black mould in the shower area. This was surprising in such a new hotel and is definitely something that should be addressed.

Restaurant is good but the service is very slow. Plus, it located by the entrance to the pool, which makes it odd to be having a meal and seeing all these people walking by in robes an bathing costumes.
