Poor communication, unprofessional conduct and a massive privacy violation
Convenient location for getting to Half Moon Bay ferry terminal and food options by car. Reasonable distance from Auckland Airport.
The property is new, the shower was clean and the host provided single-use toothbrush and toothpaste options. Towels were soft and pillows were comfortable and plentiful.
We were looking forward to this stay but the host's conduct was unfortunately unacceptable.
We were asked to stay at a different property on the first night of our booking because someone else was staying there. Our booking was very clearly a booking for the whole property. The host's messages were confusing and unclear, and this was very stressful to receive messages on the day of our flight to Auckland and not know where we were supposed to go and whether we were expected to share the property with other people. We only stayed at this property for 1 out of the 2 nights we had booked.
Access to wifi was unclear - we had our own wifi to communicate with the host and request the wifi password, which we only received around 11pm the night before check out.
The host provided an access code but made it sound like it wouldn't work because she needed to know what time we were arriving and checking in. This felt quite invasive and frustrating, as we had arrived at the property and the code worked, but she still needed to come and speak with us.
The rooms got very hot as there was no air conditioning upstairs, and no ceiling or standing fans available to circulate the cool air from downstairs, and the sun gets into the bedrooms so it got very warm in the morning.
The kitchen appliances were sticky and poorly cleaned. We messaged the host as we couldn't find a kettle, and did not receive a reply, only to wake up the following morning and the kettle was on the bench. Clearly the host had entered the property while we were asleep, which is a huge violation of privacy.
There was one locked room with a balcony which we did not have access to. We heard a man in this room late at night, and he was speaking with people on the street outside. There is no alternative access to this room, other than walking through the rest of the property. Again, we had booked the entire property and there is absolutely no reason why there should be a person staying in a locked room while we were there. This is completely unprofessional and a huge privacy breach.
