Jack Daniels Rest Gateway to Tekapo and the MacKenzie District

Burkes Pass was gorgeous, with the heritage trail interesting and visually lovely. So was the whole set up - like a little village with interesting memorabilia and an old world feel. Most items were also for sale and there were some some unique and well priced items. The cottage was small- think caravan- but definitely adequate and we enjoyed the rustic feel. Loved the bonus ciders! The only down side is that, for us, the bed was a bit small as we are used to a king bed, but it was an enjoyable place to stay away from the crowds at Tekapo. Close proximity to lovely Fairlie and the beautiful environs there and to Tekapo makes it an ideal place to stay and we would choose this again, for sure, especially for the price - and the coffee on departure, which was a nice touch.

Super cosy

Location & breakfast supplies were good. The hut style and associated atmosphere were excellent. The shower and toilet were great, as was the heating system. Departing coffees were great - thank you!

Breakfast supplies could have been topped up again ready for second morning's breakfast. Hut could use another light under the bench above the kitchen sink. External doors and windows could be sealed better to keep the warmth in on cold nights. Bed mattress could do with a more substantial topper on it.

Quirkiness. The owner has added well thought out little touches. Nice quality linen.

Tiny space, difficult travelling with suitcases. Huge step up to bathroom.
