Shaheen hotel

The hotel is located in an interesting place. Even though it's far away from the centre itself, it's actually quite close to the Old Corniche, where's a beach, and to the (sadly, ruined) palace of Muhammad Ali, and to the street of Al-Qulzum, where once the city of Al-Qulzum (Clysma) existed. It was so famous that the Red City was known in Arabic as the Sea of Al-Qulzum. Also, a fish market is close. The room was very small, but nice, modern, well-decorated, and clean. Very nice stone and tiles. While I'm not Muslim myself, it's a nice touch that you have the direction of the Mecca (qibla) indicated in the room, if you wanted to pray. The guy working in the hotel was quite pleasant. No air-conditioning, but the ventillator was quite strong and efficient.

There is, both from the toilet and the room itself, only a tiniest window to a deep shaft, with windows of other people being connected to it as well. So when a guy in some other room was listening to music in his room, I used to hear it very well myself. If I closed the window, it would get too hot. If I left it open, it would be noisy. But I managed to sleep without a problem despite that. Note that there is no lift. Not a big problem for me, but take this into account if you're disabled or elderly.
