Vaulted tongue-and-groove ceilings rise over the great room, expansive windows pull in mountain light, and a stacked-stone fireplace anchors the wall. The kitchen is fully stocked for cooking in, with a breakfast bar for whoever wanders down early and a dining table that seats the whole group at once. The sectional handles movie night. Downstairs, the pool table and arcade cabinet handle everything after that. Point the car the other way and Wears Valley Road runs southwest into Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Metcalf Bottoms — roughly half an hour, and a noticeably calmer way into the park than the Gatlinburg gate. The Foothills Parkway and its overlooks sit in the same direction. Gatlinburg itself is about thirty minutes when the Parkway cooperates.
