The picturesque village of Zwieselerwaldhaus lies at the foot of the Falkenstein. One of the most beautiful buildings here is the Alte Zollhaus, built in 1926 from natural stone, brick, and wood. It is situated at the edge of this tranquil village in a completely secluded location, right next to the Hochwald forest, in the heart of the Bavarian Forest National Park.
A total of 4 very cozy vacation apartments are available to our guests, which we, the Bickel family, deliberately manage to be family-friendly (the Arber and Pepe apartments are rated **** by the German Tourism Association).
By the way: The entire house can also be rented by groups (prices upon request) and accommodates up to 18 guests.
Equipped with every comfort, our Arber, Pepe, Falkenstein, and Silberberg apartments feature upscale amenities and, above all, plenty of space to unwind and relax. The slightly smaller Falkenstein and Silberberg apartments are particularly well-suited for hiking enthusiasts—whether singles or couples—who want to explore the unique natural beauty of the national park. The apartments can also be booked for longer stays at special rates.
The on-site sauna invites you to unwind after skiing (cross-country trails start right outside the front door; alpine skiing at Großer Arber is 10 km away) or after hiking. For cyclists, there are plenty of covered and secure parking spaces available for mountain bikes. Pets are welcome upon prior notice. A large garden with space for playing and barbecuing is, of course, available to our guests. Some apartments have covered outdoor seating areas. Deck chairs with cushions are, of course, also provided. Our small scented garden, featuring local herbs and magnificent roses, invites you to daydream and linger. Fruit trees and berry bushes are scattered throughout the garden, and our guests are, of course, welcome to snack on their fruits.
And to help you stay connected to the world, free Wi-Fi is available. Modern flat-screen TVs with satellite reception, radios, and DVD players round out the amenities in the spacious apartments. We’ve put together a small library and an extensive collection of games for everyone to enjoy. Since December, our property has been powered by climate-neutral energy. This is made possible by a modern pellet heating system supplemented by solar power and green electricity. Beautiful historic building, and a lovely and comfortable apartment with everything we needed. Great hiking trails from the Alte Zollhaus in all directions into the National Park Bayerischer Wald. Nice local restaurants and convenient shopping.We can't say enough about our host and hostess, lovely people who made our stay seem like visiting with old friends. Vielen Dank!

We really enjoyed our week-long stay in Alten Zollhaus. The location is fantastic; we did several lovely walks from the house itself, including the beautiful circular walk up the Falkenstein. The Rachel and Arber are within a short drive distance. The lovely garden is big enough to share with the other tennants, sufficient seating and even BBQ facilities are provided.
We stayed in small apartment Falkenstein. Value for money was excellent. The apartment is indeed small, but has everything you need, is very light and easy to ventilate with windows on two sides. The bathroom is a bit older and needs ventilation from the kitchen window (around the corner of the sliding door) to dry properly. Although cosily decorated, and furnished with a huge double bed, for us the apartment was a little full.

Really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful area - I am surprised it does not attract more visitors from outside Germany. The Old Custom House is situated in a remote and lovely spot in the peace of the forest but still accessible to many places of interest. Passau and Deggendorf should not be missed and it is only a short drive into Czechoslovakia. The nearby Gasthaus does excellent food and the area is perfect for walkers. The accommodation was comfortable (although there was no microwave although the description said there was) and we appreciated the fresh bread that was delivered each morning.
We hope to return!
