El Pastor is situated in an outstanding valley in the Parque Natural of the Sierra de Grazalema 7km from the village, in a secluded rural position at an altitude of 600 meters, with the nearest neighbour a few minutes walk away.
El Pastor is built on the site of an old mill and bakery and its focus is the river which can be seen from most of the windows. The accommodation is simple and typical of farmhouses and mills in the area, there is a good internet wifi connection.. The garden is planted with native plants including rosemary and lavender. There are various outside areas where one can relax and a short path takes you to the river (which powered the mill), where a waterfall has created a natural plunge pool and waterfall which is perfect for swimming in, on hot summer days. This mountainous area is perfect for walking, cycling and bird watching. Scops Owls, Golden Oriels, Griffon Vultures, Black Kites and Bee Eaters have all been spotted close to the mill.
How to get around
We have four airports nearby: Malaga, Seville, Gibraltar and Jerez de la Frontera
Grazalema is only 30kms from Ronda, a monumental and romantic town, whose visit is a must and in whose surroundings are the small wineries of the most sought-after wines of the Sierra.
There is one daily bus to Malaga that pass through Ronda.
Seville, Cadiz and Malaga, are approximately 2h. by car.
The centuries-old wineries of Jerez de la Frontera and its famous Andalusian Horses are just an hour away.

There are recycling garbage containers at various points in the town and at the exit to the Zurdo road to Grazalema.

This is the kind of 'almost off the grid' kind of experience we were hoping to get. Totally charming house with lots of places outside to either capture the sun or hide in the shade. Going for a dip in the pool by the waterfall after a 4-5 hour hike in the mountains is a luxury (albeit a cold luxury in early April). Very easy communications with the host.

Review El Pastor – GrazalemaEl Pastor is in a quiet and beautiful spot surrounded by mountains and greenery. The house itself really suited our taste: modern in its design, yet still keeping its Spanish character. It feels authentic without being overdone.The house has most of the essentials you need. The kitchen is practical, and the bedrooms and living area are comfortable. Other reviews mentioned it’s a great place to relax, and we found that to be true as well.There were a few minor downsides that can’t really be helped. For us, the heat was sometimes difficult (5 days of 40), especially at night. Air conditioning would have made it more comfortable. Because of that, we’d probably return during a cooler time of year.What we especially enjoyed was the nature around the house. We saw plenty of local plants and wildlife, and at night we loved watching the sky. Seeing shooting stars in the darkness was a memorable experience.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.“El Pastor gave us a lovely stay and will stay with us as a special place.”

Amazing and magical location. A unique place to stay surrounded by nature.

The listing is accurate, this house is quite remote, it probably would make a splendid summer getaway. However, we found it entirely unsuitable for a stay in February. All the bedrooms are connected by a corridor with six open lattice windows which allowed cold, damp air into the rooms which made sleeping there intolerable. In the end we had to move a bed into the sitting room where the open wood fire and gas heaters allowed us to maintain a reasonable temperature, even when outside it was only 1 to 2 degrees centigrade. Also, it was not made clear that the WiFi is limited and no streaming is allowed, which, with no TV, made entertainment very restricted.
