Hoorn’s distinctive horn-shaped harbor—its namesake—was once one of the Netherlands’ principal ports until the Zuiderzee silted up in the 18th century. This historic port town also boasts the creation of the first great herring fishing net in 1416, reflecting its rich maritime heritage.

Just 1.5 kilometers away lies a stunning kilometer-long sandy beach along the IJsselmeer—ideal for family fun, swimming, or simply soaking up the sun. The nearby harbor, with its vibrant water sports scene and international atmosphere, is a magnet for sailing enthusiasts and visitors seeking peaceful waterside views.

Dining options in Hoorn include cozy spots like De Paerdestal and Grand Café the Old Harbour, where you can savor fresh regional flavors in a warm atmosphere. For a unique experience, consider a private canal tour in Amsterdam with Rederij Paping, offering an intimate boat ride through the city’s historic waterways.
