The Convent of the Bernardas, located in the heart of the charming Algarve city of Tavira, was commissioned in 1509 by King Manuel I and later handed over, in 1530, to the sisters of St. Bernard, nuns of the Cistercian Order.
The rehabilitation of this building earned Eduardo Souto de Moura, architect, the Pritzker Prize and the European Prize for Architectural Heritage Intervention in 2017.
The solid wood furniture and simple decoration faithfully maintain the original design of the project's author, giving the space the true balance envisioned for the entire endeavor. The Convent of the Bernardas, also known as the Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy, was the first convent to be established in the Algarve.

Kitchen: Equipped with various appliances, such as an electric hob, kettle, fridge, stove, oven, microwave, 'Delta Q' capsule coffee machine, filter coffee machine, dishwasher, and washing machine. Basic kitchen utensils provided.
Bedrooms: 2 bedrooms equipped with air conditioning, both with a wardrobe, one with a double bed, and another room with a single bed with a bed in a drawer. One bedroom is located on the ground floor and the other on the first floor. Bed linen is provided.
Bathroom: 2 bathrooms in total, each located in one of the bedrooms. Equipped with a hairdryer, shower base, bathtub, washbasin, bidet, and toilet. Bath towels are provided.
Pool: 2 common saltwater pools.

The location of the unit on the property is good.When sitting outside, the sun is with you most of the day. The pool was not open due to maintenance. We were only told this after we bought and paid for the apartment in full. The interior needs a makeover. Furniture in the small sitting/tv area needs to be replaced. The pull out sofa bed has a piece of plywood under the cushions making it most uncomfortable to sit on. Never mind an eye sore. The 2 chairs are worn and seats sink. Lightening is not conducive to reading or preparing meals. Light in the range hood does not work. Fridge door pops open. New towels would be a good thing as the ones on offer are threadbare. Floor matts should be replaced as well. All in all too bad as this property is in a great location in Tavira.
