The property is decorated and furnished to a very high standard, situated next door to the owner, but offering a very private setting. At the bottom of the lane is a small river with a ford across to the fields, and there is no through traffic. It lies close to Axminster, an unspoilt Devon market town situated on the River Axe, surrounded by stunning countryside and filled with charm and character. This attractive market town lies in the beautiful Axe Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasting quaint villages and unspoilt countryside. Famous for its carpets, the original Axminster factory was opened in 1755 by Thomas Whitty and authentic British ’Axminsters’ are still made in the town by Axminster Carpets. Situated a few miles inland from the Jurassic Coast, guests can visit towns such as Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth and Seaton with its famous tramway.

Tucked in the south east corner of Devon, Axminster is an ideal touring centre for the neighbouring counties of Somerset and Dorset, with Lyme Regis and Charmouth just 6 miles away.

Celebrity chef and TV presenter Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has his very first River Cottage Canteen and Deli (an organic produce shop/market and canteen) here, and his River Cottage HQ is nearby in the Axe valley. There are many places to visit close by including many NT properties. This is an ideal spot for walking with a footpath close to the property. The Yarty Valley is a very peaceful area and ideal for bird watching, cycling the country lanes or just relaxing on the patio enjoying views of the river. A lovely cottage tucked away for the ideal relaxing getaway. The owners had left us a lovely welcome pack, including a tasty lemon drizzle cake. The cottage was tidy and had everything you needed. Though could do with sharper knives for cutting meats. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the mattress in the king size room was too bumpy & soft to use so moved to the twin room which was perfect! We had a dog with us, the walks were fantastic, miles of countryside along the river, through farms & a lovely farm shop which was worth the visit. There is also a fish monger there, fresh local seafood for a good price. The garden was ideal, we didn’t use it being cold but great for the dog to stretch her legs & play. If you’re a star gazer, this place is perfect, no light pollution enabling you to see clearly all the constellations. The owners are lovely, we met Molly their dog who was friendly. They are discreet but will assist with any issues, we ran out of foil and gave us some more.Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, lots of room to do your thing, whether that is playing games with the family, watching tv, cooking a masterpiece in the kitchen or strolling along the fields by the river, there’s something for everyone. We are already planning our next visit!

We had a 4 night stay in this gorgeous property. From the moment we walked through the door we fell in love with the place. It felt very homely, comfortable and beautifully presented. The upstairs was lovely and spacious. An amazing kitchen/dining room with everything we needed and more. We were greeted with an array treats and essentials, which was such a lovely suprise and very well received by all of us. We couldnt have found a better place to stay.
