Very friendly host and very comfortable stay. Host has a very smart way of "reserving" shower timeslots to deconflict use by multiple parties, and was helpful in getting recommendations for food in the area.

The Tatami room had an interesting lock that worked effectively for preventing the opening of the sliding doors when someone was in the room. However, this did not work when no one was in the room, meaning that belongings had to be kept on oneself or locked within luggage for security. Room was also quite central and thus movements and activity from other patrons moving along corridors or in the common areas were quite prevalent.

The house offered a basic but comfortable stay. Our room was large, the shared bathroom facilities were adequate, and we had a good night’s sleep.

Unfortunately, some practical details made the stay more difficult than expected. The afternoon shuttle was cancelled, so we had to take a taxi from the station. At the time we booked, the listing said breakfast and dinner were available for an additional fee, but on arrival we learned that meals had to be reserved in advance. This requirement had not been explained. We had even messaged from the train to ask whether dinner would be available or whether we should buy bento in town, but received no reply. There are very few places nearby to buy breakfast or dinner, so we ended up eating convenience-store food for both meals. We felt the listing should have been clearer about meal reservations and the limited alternatives in the area. Smoking is permitted on the shared balcony. Our neighbors did not smoke, so we were able to leave the balcony door open and enjoy the cool night air and the sound of the crickets. Had someone been smoking nearby, we would have needed to keep it closed. Overall, the accommodation itself was adequate and we slept well, but clearer communication and more accurate information before arrival would have improved the experience.
