Great potential and love the idea, but not quite there yet in terms of execution
A beautiful location on the river with lovely views, especially at sunset. It’s great for fishing from the boat and along the riverbank. There’s a good-sized fridge and an excellent combi oven/air fryer that was a joy to cook in. It’s also fun to stay somewhere a little quirky and different. It’s close to the nearby pub - which serves some nice food - and just a short drive from Bidford-on-Avon, as well as being easy to get to many other places. There’s no phone signal, but they do have WiFi. There was also good communication from the owner.
The idea is there but it could have been executed better. We have taken many week-long trips on canal boats, so we knew roughly what to expect from those in terms of the compact nature and style of living. However from the description we were assuming that this would have been done up more like a place to stay. The freestanding entry steps were not stable and when they tipped over my partner slipped and grazed his leg. One of the wires was posted through a slatted window, so it was not possible to fully shut out bugs and and spiders. The curtains didn’t full reach the edges of the windows. To turn off the noisy water pump you had to go out to the deck at night, where there were literally 30 spiders at a time. We didn’t know that we would have to keep refilling the water tank from a hosepipe ourselves - once would have been ok, if still not ideal, but we had to do it every morning and night as the water kept running out, so we were too afraid to use the shower in case it ran out halfway through (you also need to find something yourself to unscrew the cap with). It’s also not clear from the photos that the shower is in the same tiny room as the toilet, so where you stand with your dirty shoes is also where you stand with your bare feet to shower. The design of the tiny bathroom sink means when the water tank is running out it spits water all over you. We also ended up cleaning our teeth and boiling water for coffee that was slightly brown with little flakey bits in it. There’s a great little heater supplied and plenty of power points, however when you pull out your phone lead, the sockets come out of the wall as they haven’t been fitted properly. The cupboard where a live extension lead was stored was also flooded, which seems pretty dangerous (we only spotted this as we were leaving). It has Netflix but the TV didn’t work properly. We even tried changing the batteries in the remote, but that didn’t help.
