The Baltic Sea resort of Thiessow is located at the southeasternmost tip of the island of Rügen on the Mönchgut Peninsula and is surrounded by the Baltic Sea, the Bodden, and vast salt marshes. The town looks back on a long history: The first traces of human settlement date back to the Slavic period. Later, during the Middle Ages, the peninsula was shaped by the monks of Eldena Abbey, who also gave the region its name.
