There are peaceful trails around the reserve, boardwalks, viewing hides and a 60-foot observation tower accessible by the summer water trail, offering breathtaking views over the marshes. Hickling itself is made up of peaceful green lanes, a small local shop and friendly pubs. Just outside the village stands Stubb Drainage Windmill, a restored historic windmill that brings a touch of Broads heritage to the landscape. Just a short five minute walk from Shepards Hut is The Pleasure Boat Inn in Hickling, Norfolk, which is an iconic waterside pub on the edge of Hickling Broad. It offers stunning broad-side views, a spacious beer garden, moorings for boaters, a welcoming bar and a restaurant serving locally sourced food.

The hut has been lovingly finished with minimal plastic and quality natural touches throughout.
