Historic Rider's Hostelry

The breakfast was perfect. We stayed here because it was in close proximity to a venue where we attended an event.

The breakfast was perfect! Really enjoyed my stay much needed reprieve! Staff was amazing!! Will recomend to my friends!!

Loved staying in a place that was historic. We enjoyed chatting with the proprietor of the place. He made us feel welcome. The breakfast was good. I enjoyed the French toast, coffee & juice.

Friendliness, breakfast food and portions, dog-friendliness, parking free, easy & close, central location for Mentor Headlands Birding Festival, working room A/C, reliable hot water, toilet in good working order, cleanliness considering age, extra bed pillows, free water bottles, coffee, utensil & supply on floor. Attendant helped us take luggage upstairs. Note: No elevator, 2-storey. Quiet hours respected on site, but it was late September, only two or three other rooms booked. Appreciated our dog, waived pet fee due to good behavior. Sidewalks to walk dog.

Room smaller than online pictures suggest. Unclear procedures for alerting readiness for breakfast, availability of server for breakfast, unresponsive to restaurant voicemail about that, unpredictability of breakfast menu. Only an unevenly aligned deadbolt on room door for security, very hot hallways & dining room on mild outdoor weather days, several lamps in room not working, unclear procedures about room maintenance, fresh towels--Some woman on 1st floor randomly offered service to make our stay better but didn't give us her name or a way to contact her. Our contract has been a man. Ice maker but very low capacity. Lots of noisy traffic at intersection of Chestnut & Mentor Ave, where our room faced, and A/C was a window unit so effectively open window with outside noise. Access to inn stairs & check-in counter goes through restaurant, awkward of you happen to check in or pass through during dinner hours, especially as dog isn't allowed in dining area. Value for cost.
