The Colony Hotel Kennebunkport

Positive Points Style, charm, and overall quality of the hotel: A beautiful colonial-style property with a unique character and a great deal of charm. Excellent location in Kennebunkport: Approximately 1.2 miles from downtown Kennebunkport, with its many restaurants, shops, and activities. Approximately 1.2 miles from Walker’s Point, the Bush family’s summer residence. Proximity to the beach is a major advantage. Very nice facilities, particularly the swimming pool and outdoor areas. Several good small restaurants conveniently located near the hotel. Staff were generally courteous and welcoming, particularly at the front desk. Special mention to Steve, who was very helpful in clarifying some billing issues and charges on my account. The lobster Eggs Benedict at breakfast were excellent and were definitely one of the highlights of the dining experience

Negative Points Two restaurant charges were mistakenly added to my room account. This was particularly frustrating for a hotel of this caliber and required me to have my account reviewed and corrected. The breakfast buffet dining room did not meet the standard I would expect: The absence of white tablecloths made the dining area feel more like an ordinary restaurant than what one would expect from a hotel of this quality and price range. The breakfast buffet was adequate, but nothing more. Considering the hotel’s standing and price point, I expected a higher-quality experience. Breakfast service was somewhat disappointing: The server was courteous but appeared distracted. Several orders or requests were forgotten, and we had to remind him more than once about various items. A dog was barking at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday evening, apparently having been left alone in a guest room. The barking became disruptive enough that I had to intervene myself. At a hotel of this caliber, allowing pets should not come at the expense of other guests’ peace and quiet. The behavior of a housekeeping employee on the second floor appeared very unprofessional: The employee was walking extremely slowly and nonchalantly down the hallway, staying close to the wall with his head almost leaning against or turned toward it. He almost appeared to be falling asleep while walking. It created a very poor impression and seemed completely inconsistent with the level of professionalism one would expect from a hotel of this caliber.

Hotel was beautiful and room was very clean; bed comfortable. Location and views amazing.

Location of light sockets in the room. There weren't many and they were not located in proximity to the bed.
