Royal Oak Cottage is a beautifully refurbished, Grade II listed Cotswold holiday cottage dating back to the early 1900s. This home from home sleeps four guests across two charming bedrooms and two spacious bathrooms, and at its heart, there is a stylish open plan kitchen/dining room. A handy study opens directly onto the split-level garden, where you'll find generous outdoor seating and a fire pit. Inside, the cosy sitting room welcomes you with an exposed stone hearth, a crackling log burner and original beamed ceiling. Royal Oak Cottage is a dog friendly holiday home, welcoming one dog, so your four-legged companion can enjoy the adventure too.Accommodation

My mum and I stayed for a week at Royal Oak Cottage. It's a lovely little cottage fronting onto one of the main roads heading into the town centre. There is traffic, but not enough to be troublesome. There are a few parking spaces on the road directly outside the cottage. We managed to get parked each day, but it could be tight.
The cottage was well equipped, cosy (once we had found the heating control!), and it was just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. This made it very convenient for nipping to a coffee shop or getting some essentials from the small high street supermarket.
All the bedding was high quality, and the beds/pilows were very comfortable.
When we arrived, we had trouble locking both the front and back doors from the inside - the locks were incredibly stiff. However, one call to the agents and the same afternoon a locksmith was sent out and the locks changed. That's great customer service. Well done!
My only feedback for improvement would be to have a better manual for the house. It took us two days to realise the heating control was not the bedside clock! The stuff you can access online is next to useless. Apart from that niggle, the cottage was great and perfect for our stay in the Cotswolds. Definitely recommended.

Royal Oak Cottage is in a great location a short walk from the centre. It is a very spacious and pleasant cottage with nice gardens.We would have rated the cottage excellent if minor maintenance issues had been dealt with and the provision of kitchen equipment was more practical. We enjoyed our stay and the shops and restaurants in the town.

Good:
* Charming cottage in a good location just a couple of mins walk to town
* Easy check in / access process
* Most things in good working order, well maintained and clean
Bad:
* Heating controls / thermostat a bit of a pain - house was regularly extremely hot until I reset all of the programs
* Kitchen equipment and supplies OK - blunt knives, no coffee (odd as milk was provided)
* Missing pieces from child stair gate
* Largely clean throughout, but could have been a touch better

On arrival the exterior of the cottage looks tired and immediately the maintenance issues were apparent. The kitchen tap was very unstable and lightbulbs weren't working in the sitting room. The sitting room would benefit from a refresh and dog hair on the rug is off putting for non dog owners. However the log fire was effective as was the heating (though managing the thermostat proved tricky). The kitchen was well equipped and upstairs the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. Very comfortable beds with nice linen and clean bathrooms. Lovely view over the garden and a peaceful feel.
