The staff was kind and generous. The meal was delicious. We were sad to say goodbye!

There was so much to like so let me get started. Texu is right on the Camino. We were welcomed right away by two Camino seasoned Dutch volunteers who provided a comfort drink and a pastry. And, as we were spent ascending our first serious mountain, we were grateful and appreciative. They made us feel at home right away. We were provided a comfortable room with two bunk beds. All of the rooms were set up in that manner. Laundry was easy to take care of.
Dinner was phenomenal thanks to another Dutch volunteer, Monique, who provided VEGETABLES that we badly needed, even scalloped potatoes which was a most pleasant departure after the standard Spanish fare of chips. She certainly knows her way around in the kitchen. Breakfast was wonderful too at a spacious table with all the other pilgrims.
These same three ladies made me see that my hip pain was due to my backpack being too heavy and that I should transport it daily instead. (I'm an 81 year old female.) It was wise advice even though I was reluctant to 'give up the ship.' They were also very encouraging, those personable cheerleaders. I loved that they shared their stories.
Honestly, the experience my husband and I had at Texu, and the day before at Villa Pallintina, truly set the stage for the Primitivo. Without their full enlightenment about doing the Hospitales Route, I never would have done it and they so correct: It was not that hard, in fact easier in the long run than Pola de Allande. The hosts of both places said the body would adjust after four days and to trust it. The were right. We did and it did.
I would encourage future pilgrims to plan an itinerary to include both Texu and Villa Pallintina. They truly provide the foundation of support and information that you need for the Primitivo. You would be wise to book both ahead and not pay any attention to winging it as you go.
Not a thing.

Las anfitrionas no hablaban ni una palabra de español. Tienen un negocio en España y ni siquiera saben decir Buenos Días en español, después de saber que yo no lo hablaba. Además, eran desconfiadas, posiblemente porque no confían en los españoles.
