History fans might want to visit Croft Castle (12.5 miles), also owned by the National Trust, or English Heritage site Goodrich Castle (27 miles). Keen walkers can head to the undulating Black Mountains (22 miles) or the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (23 miles) with its abundance of lookout points.
