I arrived in Kalga thinking I would stay a couple of nights. One night became one month, which probably tells you more about this place than any “10/10 review” ever could. In a village full of guesthouses, this one feels different. Maybe it’s the view of apple trees instead of the next homestay, maybe it’s the peaceful atmosphere that makes you forget what day it is, or maybe it’s simply the people. Simran, Bidi and Suria run this place with confidence and warmth, but what makes them special is not the service — it’s the feeling. Very quickly, I stopped feeling like a guest and started feeling like a friend who had somehow found his way back home after being away for too long. And for someone who lives on the road, that feeling is rare. There’s something beautiful about waking up here. The mountains outside, the slow rhythm of Kalga, the conversations, the chai, the quiet. It feels like a small peaceful bubble where the world suddenly becomes less noisy. Also, Bella, the house dog, deserves her own special mention. She has mastered the art of emotional manipulation. Every time you pet her, she covers her eyes with her paws like a shy Bollywood actress receiving compliments. Impossible not to fall in love with her. Some places give you a bed. Some places give you memories. This place gave me the wonderful feeling of belonging somewhere again.

Sometimes it’s deeply disappointing to remember that everything eventually has to end.
