• The Milky Way's bright galactic core is visible May–September
• Best viewing is 10pm–2am (PhotoPills or stellarium web)
• Plan around the moon — new moon or moon-below-horizon nights are darkest (Search timeanddate moon phase)
• Try free sky-map apps → Sky Guide (iOS), SkyView Lite (free, iOS/Android)
• Explore Joshua Tree National Park ranger-led astronomy programs
• Grab a blanket — desert nights cool down even in summer
• Let your eyes adjust 15–20 minutes; more stars appear the longer you're out
