Soak under the stars in your private hot tub, high in Puerto Rico's misty mountains.

La Casita Amarilla is a charming two-bedroom wooden house on a working organic farm in Utuado, made for people who want to truly slow down. Wake to birdsong and rolling fog, hike to hidden waterfalls, pick fruit straight from the trees, then sink back into the bubbles as the coquís start their evening chorus.

The house is fully off-grid. Solar power with battery backup and a private cistern keep the lights, WiFi, showers and hot tub running no matter what's happening on the island's grid.

THE HOUSE

The primary bedroom has a queen bed and an ensuite bathroom, a private little retreat within the retreat. The second bedroom also has a queen bed, and the study has a sofa bed. A second full bathroom serves the rest of the house. Fresh towels are provided, and every room has a fan to keep the cool mountain air moving.

The kitchen is fully equipped for home cooking, with a stove, fridge, microwave and coffee makers ready to go, because mornings here deserve a proper cup of coffee on the terrace.

THE OUTDOORS

Two terraces give you options depending on your mood. Head upstairs for sweeping panoramic views over the valley and mountains, or settle onto the covered lower terrace, with a table and chairs for long meals and easy conversation. When evening comes, fire up the BBQ at the gazebo and cook under the open sky.

And then there's the hot tub, one of the only ones in the area. It's best enjoyed after a day of exploring, under a sky full of stars.

THE FARM

The house sits on a working 2-acre property bursting with tropical fruit trees: banana, annona, sapote, breadfruit, corazón, avocado, mamey, soursop and coffee, plus sugar cane, pineapple and much more. Depending on the season, you're welcome to pick and enjoy fruit straight from the land. There's also an orchard and a nursery where vegetables and legumes are grown. It's a little piece of paradise that most guests never want to leave.

POWER AND WATER YOU CAN COUNT ON

While much of Puerto Rico deals with rolling blackouts and water rationing, La Casita Amarilla is fully self-sufficient. Solar panels with battery backup power the entire house day and night, and a private cistern supplies every tap, shower and the hot tub. When the grid goes down, life here carries on as usual.

WORKING REMOTELY?

Dual-band WiFi covers the whole property, so you can take calls from the terrace without missing a beat, even during island-wide outages.

PARKING AND PRIVACY

Free covered parking is included, with easy access directly from the road. The owners live next door, but each home has its own entrance and parking. Private when you want it, helpful when you need it.

A pharmacy, supermarket, cafés and restaurants are just 5 minutes away. Downtown Utuado is 15 minutes away, and San Juan is about 1.5 hours away when it's time to head back to the city.

La Casita Amarilla is completely smoke- and vape-free, both inside and in all outdoor areas, including the terraces, yard, driveway and parking. This means every guest arrives to a clean, fresh-smelling home.
