Unobstructed view of Santa Lucía Hill, just one block from Metro Line 1. You’ll find supermarkets, pharmacies, and cafes just around the corner.
Your apartment is just one block from the station that connects you to the entire Line 1, the backbone linking eastern and western Santiago. It is the capital’s most important and oldest Metro line and connects to the best-stocked and most entertaining shopping centers in the eastern sector, both located at Tobalaba Station: Costanera Center, one of the top 5 shopping centers in Latin America, and the MUT, Chile’s first urban market.
From your apartment, you can walk to the main museums and historic neighborhoods in downtown Santiago.
All the main attractions are just across the Alameda, via the underground passage at the Santa Lucía Metro station that connects the two sides of the avenue.
You’ll have Cerro Santa Lucía right in the center of your living room, *the moment you open the door. It’s a must-see for its architectural landscaping and panoramic views of downtown. From your balcony, you’ll see the Terraza de Neptuno, a double-staircase structure with a small temple and a fountain on the upper level. Enter there and begin your journey toward the summit’s lookout points.
A little further south is the National Library, an imposing neoclassical building just a few blocks from Cerro Santa Lucía on Alameda Avenue itself. It’s ideal for architectural photos; you can enter the reading rooms and check out a book just to experience the century-old atmosphere of its facilities.
The Lastarria neighborhood is about a 10-minute walk or one metro stop away. It’s the neighborhood’s cultural and gastronomic hub par excellence, featuring a small movie theater, El Biógrafo, the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center—one of the largest in Santiago—and great spots to sample Chilean wines, such as the Boca Nariz restaurant; lively bars like El Bajo or La Virgen; the well-stocked Ulises Bookstore, where you can find Chilean literature; trendy shops in the Lastarria Gallery, among many other attractions.
In the Lastarria neighborhood, you can also enjoy one of the shops with the best ice cream in Santiago: Emporio La Rosa. There are two locations in the same neighborhood—one across from Patio Lastarria and another on the edge of Forestal Park—where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere at outdoor tables.
Right in the heart of Parque Forestal is the National Museum of Fine Arts, which exhibits collections by the most prominent Chilean artists in our history, as well as traveling exhibitions.
Surrounding the Government Palace, two Metro stops away at La Moneda Station, lies Santiago’s administrative center. In the Nueva York neighborhood, renowned for its architectural significance, stands the Stock Exchange building, next to La Moneda stands the beautiful historic building of the Santiago Provincial Government, and just one block away is the Central Bank building—an imposing structure that houses the Numismatic Museum, which displays a collection spanning 500 years of Chilean banknotes and coins. One of the most popular attractions is the changing of the guard by the Carabineros who guard the Government Palace. After your tour, you can have lunch at another historic bar in downtown Santiago, La Unión Chica, where I recommend trying the sandwiches, the Madrid-style tripe, or the pork rolls with potatoes if you’re in the mood for hearty dishes.
