The Secret Chalet at Chena

Secret Chalet at Chena is a very special place for people who want to experience Sri Lanka's natural environment in a completely different way. The accommodation is made up of beautiful three-storey tree huts surrounded by greenery and a peaceful chena. The three levels of the tree hut are thoughtfully arranged. The kitchen is on the ground floor, the second floor has a sitting area where you can relax and enjoy the surroundings, and the bedroom is on the top floor. The views from the upper floor are fantastic, with Sigiriya, Pidurangala and a huge area of forest visible from the room. The journey to the property is also part of the experience. We were taken by tractor along the lake bund and then travelled by boat to reach the chena. It was fun, peaceful and completely different from arriving at an ordinary hotel. The breakfast was included and the traditional Sri Lankan dishes were delicious. We also loved seeing locally grown vegetables in the chena. Depending on the surroundings and the time of day, wild animals such as elephants may even come near the property. If you enjoy nature, traditional Sri Lankan food and unusual accommodation, this is definitely a memorable place to experience.

Staying at Secret Chalet at Chena was one of the most unique experiences we had in Sri Lanka. Getting there is an adventure itself. The journey starts with a tractor ride along the bund of the lake, followed by a short boat ride across the water to reach the chena where the tree huts are located. It feels like entering a completely different world away from the usual hotels. The tree hut itself is beautifully designed over three levels. The ground floor has a kitchen, the second floor has a comfortable sitting area, and the top floor is the bedroom. From the upper levels, we had beautiful views of Sigiriya, Pidurangala and the surrounding forest. What made the stay even more special was the peaceful natural environment. The property has traditional Sri Lankan vegetables growing around the chena, and sometimes wild animals, including elephants, can come close to the property. It is an amazing opportunity to experience nature without disturbing it. Breakfast was included and consisted of delicious traditional Sri Lankan food. Overall, this is a wonderful place for anyone looking for something completely different from a normal hotel stay.
