The Space:
Prospect Cottage is a stunning Grade II listed Georgian home, rich in artistic history and beautifully arranged across four floors in central Rottingdean. Once home to celebrated Pre‑Raphaelite artist Sir Edward Burne‑Jones (1880–1898), his blue plaque still marks the entrance. Inside, the home retains magnificent period character; original‑style fireplaces, elegant cornicing, high ceilings, and glorious views across the village.

First floor: Spacious principal double bedroom with bay window and window seat, perfect for relaxing, plus family bathroom and separate walk‑in shower room.
Top floor: Two further comfortable double bedrooms. Step out to a wonderful roof terrace with views over The Green, duck pond and Kipling Gardens; an idyllic spot for morning coffee or evening drinks. To the rear, enjoy views toward Beacon Hill and its historic windmill.

The Neighborhood:
Prospect Cottage sits directly on The Green in the historic Sussex village of Rottingdean, with Kipling Gardens, the duck pond and St Margaret’s Church just outside.
The village blends rich history with charming seaside life, independent cafés, traditional pubs, shops and the beach are all within easy walking distance.
Rottingdean holds remarkable artistic and literary connections. Sir Edward Burne‑Jones lived here from 1880 to 1898; his nephew by marriage Rudyard Kipling later resided nearby at The Elms and wrote during his years here — the beautiful gardens opposite now bear his name.
St Margaret’s Church across The Green also features stunning stained glass designed by Burne‑Jones.
Stroll down to Rottingdean Beach and the Undercliff Walk, or head inland toward Beacon Hill and the South Downs for glorious countryside views.
Getting Around:
Rottingdean is wonderfully walkable; beach, shops, cafés, pubs and South Downs walks all nearby.
Regular buses link you to Brighton Marina and central Brighton, making city trips easy without a car.
The scenic Undercliff Walk also offers a traffic‑free route along the coast toward Brighto Marina and the city.
Other Things to Note:
Prospect Cottage is a Grade II listed historic property dating from the 18th century. Its age and distinctive character are part of the experience, so please expect charm rather than the feel of a modern home.
Arranged across four floors with several flights of stairs; including between living areas and bedrooms, the cottage may not suit guests with limited mobility or very young children without close supervision.
The roof terrace is accessed from the top floor.
Located in the heart of a historic village, we kindly ask you to be considerate of neighbours, particularly when enjoying the roof terrace.
