This island cottage location has been providing a place of rest and comfort for over 100 years. In the early 1900s, Anastasia Islanders built sea shacks and resided here, living off the land and ocean. As railroad lines and transportation expanded throughout America’s eastern seaboard, making their way into Northeast Florida, land developers arrived here in the early to mid-1900s with grand ideas of constructing yachting canals, a casino, golf courses, beach cottages, and nice home residences near the nation's oldest city of Saint Augustine. Mr. D.P “Doc” Davis was part of that history and championed the idea of what is today known as ‘Davis Shores’. The original construction of this island cottage dates back to the 1940s with formal property records of documented original construction, additions, restorations, and renovations occurring from the 1950s through the 1980s. The latest modifications we’re recently completed in the 2020s. The Fleming / Whetstone families have been part of the property ownership since the 1980s. And YES. the Whetstone Chocolates company of Saint Augustine has family connections to this place. Many of the pictures on display at this property reflect the land development journey of Saint Augustine, Davis Shores, and this island property. We hope that you enjoy your time here while adding to the history of this place of rest and comfort.
Whether you're here for a beach vacation, a concert weekend, or to explore the nation’s oldest city, you'll be perfectly situated to experience it all.
