Château Camion is a 1985 Grumman-Olsen bread truck tucked into five wooded acres just outside Olympia.

It’s a small, cozy place with a lot of character, and a good spot to disappear for a night or two. Mornings are quiet, the ducks and goats are usually somewhere nearby and there’s plenty of room to wander, sit under the trees, read in the hammock or just do absolutely nothing but listen to the birds chirp amd the frogs croak.

Inside, we kept some of the truck’s original industrial feel and warmed it up with a simple modern-farmhouse style. There’s a couch that turns into a full-size bed, a little kitchenette, Wi-Fi and a hot indoor shower. The composting toilet is just outside in its own private outhouse.

Outside, there’s a propane fire pit, picnic table, swing, hammock and five acres to enjoy. It feels tucked away, but you’re still close enough to Olympia for dinner, coffee or a walk around the Capitol.

Château Camion is a quiet, unusual little place to slow down, get comfortable and stay somewhere a bit different.
