Region: Cornwall’s visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain’s premier holiday destinations.
Town: Nestled in southeast Cornwall’s Rame Peninsula is the stunning village of Crafthole. This hidden gem can be found in the parish of Sheviock and boasts a country pub, shop, chapel, Post Office, and a village hall. Dating back to the 19th century, this sneaky village was well known for smuggling rum, using the Portwrinkle harbour to offload the beverage and travelling up the long and steep hill back to Crafthole Methodist Chapel, where the rum would be stored underneath the building. Portwrinkle is a gorgeous coastal village, home to a Grade II listed building, Eglarooze Cliff, sandy beaches, and a large golf course. Also nearby havens worth visiting include the beautiful coastal villages of Millbrook and Downderry, the fun seaside town of Looe, and the thriving city of Plymouth. Nearby is Antony House, a National Trust property, while a little further on lies Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, offering extensive gardens and scenic coastal walks. Crafthole is a tranquil spot for a break away when exploring the Cornish coast.
