Stay somewhere truly different during your next trip to Pittsburgh. The Blue Pearl is a one-of-a-kind modern 4-bedroom, 2.5-bath home built from six 40-foot shipping containers and thoughtfully transformed into 2,000 sq. ft. of bright, comfortable living space.
You may have already seen the Blue Pearl featured in the press. The home has been recognized as Pittsburgh`s first standalone, full-scale residence built entirely from shipping containers - a fitting piece of modern architecture for the Steel City. The containers were new-build and never used to carry cargo, then stacked and joined across three residential levels to create a home that feels surprisingly spacious inside. Nearly 9-foot ceilings, large windows, original steel details and thoughtful modern finishes give the house a style you simply won`t find in a traditional Pittsburgh home.

And the experience doesn`t end indoors. Above the three living levels is an enormous private rooftop deck with lounge seating, outdoor dining, games and panoramic views across Pittsburgh. Whether you`re visiting with family, friends, or a group looking for a memorable place to call home for a few days, the Blue Pearl was designed to give everyone plenty of room to spread out.

First Floor: Living Room, Dining + Kitchen, half bathroom

Enter the home into a spacious, open-concept first floor designed for spending time together.
The living room features a comfortable italian leather sofa positioned in front of a 55` Smart TV, creating an easy place to unwind after a day exploring Pittsburgh. The warm modern furnishings complement the home`s industrial architecture while still keeping the space comfortable and inviting.

There are two separate dining areas with seating for six total. A four-person dining table provides plenty of room for family meals, takeout nights, or game night, while a separate two-person table by the window creates a great spot for morning coffee, breakfast, or getting a little work done.

Just off the living and dining space is the full kitchen, complete with ample cabinet and counter space and everything you need to prepare anything from a quick breakfast to dinner for the group.

A convenient half bathroom / powder room is also located on this level.


Second Floor: Primary Suite + Flexible Family Bedroom

Head upstairs to the second floor, where you`ll find two of the home`s four bedrooms.
The primary bedroom is a spacious private retreat featuring a king-size bed, 50` Smart TV, two large closets and its own private full bathroom.

For guests working remotely or simply needing a real place to sit down with a laptop, the room also includes a large solid-wood dedicated workspace. Rather than squeezing a tiny desk into the corner, we`ve created a comfortable, functional work area that makes longer stays especially convenient.

Step directly outside from the primary bedroom onto your own private outdoor deck, furnished with two chairs and perfect for a quiet cup of coffee in the morning or a little fresh air before bed.

Second Bedroom: Koala Sofa Bed + Nursery Setup

The second bedroom on this floor was intentionally designed to be one of the home`s most flexible spaces.

Instead of a basic pull-out couch, the room features a premium Koala sofa bed, giving you a comfortable lounge space during the day that converts into a dedicated sleeping space at night. It`s a great setup for kids, additional family members, or guests who appreciate having a bedroom that doesn`t feel crowded by a permanent bed all day.

The room can also function as a nursery for families traveling with young children. We wanted parents to be able to travel without packing half the house, so we`ve equipped the Blue Pearl with a full-size Dream On Me folding crib, not simply a small Pack `n Play.

The crib measures approximately 54`L x 31`W x 46`H and features two adjustable mattress heights, locking wheels and a foldable design. Fresh fitted crib sheets are provided. We also keep a high chair on site, making the home particularly convenient for families traveling with babies or toddlers.

Between the full-size crib, high chair, flexible Koala sleeping setup, four bedrooms and multiple living spaces, we`ve tried to make traveling as a family considerably easier.


Third Floor: Two Queen Bedrooms + Bonus Hangout Area

Continue upstairs to the third residential level, where you`ll find two additional private bedrooms, each furnished with a comfortable queen-size bed.

Between the bedrooms is a fun bonus hangout area where kids and adults can relax away from the main living room. Kick back in the beanbag chairs, challenge someone to a game on the Pac-Man arcade machine, or simply use it as another place to spread out during your stay.

This floor also includes the home`s second full bathroom, making it much easier for larger families and groups to get ready without everyone sharing the same bathroom.

A free in-home washer and dryer is conveniently located on this floor as well, especially helpful for longer stays, families with children, or anyone who likes to pack light.


Private Rooftop Deck

And then there`s the rooftop.

Head up the final staircase and step outside onto what may be our favorite part of the entire Blue Pearl - an enormous private rooftop deck perched above the surrounding neighborhood.
The rooftop has been designed as a true outdoor extension of the house rather than just an empty deck. Settle into the large luxury lounge seating area, enjoy dinner outdoors at the six-person dining table, or fire up the grill for an evening at home.

There is so much space that we`ve also set up cornhole with plenty of room to actually play. A large cantilever umbrella provides shade during the day, while string lighting creates an entirely different atmosphere once the sun goes down.

Grab your morning coffee, spend an afternoon outside with the family, or settle into the lounge furniture in the evening as the lights come on across Pittsburgh. The rooftop provides wide views over the surrounding East End neighborhoods and is one of the features that makes this home truly special. The original developers themselves described the rooftop as the home`s `showstopper.`

Please note: The Blue Pearl is a multi-level home. There are stairs between each residential floor as well as an additional staircase leading to the rooftop deck. There is no elevator, so please make sure everyone in your group will be comfortable using stairs before booking.
We’re extremely reasonable hosts — please know that common sense always applies to all of these rules. You never have to worry about excessive checkout chores (there are none), unfair charges, or any intrusion of privacy.

These guidelines exist only to protect against egregious or disrespectful behavior and to ensure every guest enjoys a clean, safe, and five-star experience. If you’re a respectful guest, you’ll have absolutely no issues with any of this!

🔹QUIET HOURS: (8PM - 8AM)

Please be respectful of neighbors and other guests in the building. Keep noise, TV, music, and conversation at a reasonable level during quiet hours.

If a noise complaint is received and ignored, a $200 fine per disturbance may apply.

🔹NO PARTIES OR EVENTS

Our building enforces a strict no-party policy. Hosting gatherings, bringing in unregistered guests, damaging the unit, or disrupting neighbors may result in a $1,000 fine and immediate removal without refund.

🔹NO SMOKING OR VAPING

Smoking or vaping of any kind is strictly prohibited inside the unit or in common areas. A $500 fine will apply for violation of this rule.

🔹NO UNAUTHORIZED GUESTS (WITH REASONABLE EXCEPTIONS)

We understand that sometimes friends or family may stop by briefly during your stay — that’s totally fine. This rule mainly applies to unauthorized overnight guests or large, unapproved gatherings.

Please just send us a quick message if you have visitors and there will be no issue.

If a guest hosts unapproved overnight stays, a party, or a disruptive gathering, a $25 fine per unauthorized guest may apply.

🔹NO ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES

Any illegal activity — including but not limited to drug use, possession, distribution, theft, vandalism, fraud, or any other criminal conduct — is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of the stay with no refund.

We cooperate fully with local law enforcement when necessary to protect the safety of our guests, staff, and neighbors. Tampering with smoke detectors, security devices, or access systems also falls under this policy.
