The space
The Woodsman began as a stand of white pine on this ten-acre ridge. We milled those trees on the land and built them back up into a cabin — so the place you’re staying is, quite literally, the forest reassembled around you. It’s small on purpose. Old world meets modern comfort: hand-built warmth, considered materials, and just enough of the modern world to keep you easy.
This is a retreat for two — and especially for anyone who has been meaning to write something. There’s a queen bed dressed in California Design Den luxury linens, an apothecary bar of teas and herbs, premium coffee waiting in the morning, and a writer’s kit of quills, ink, and parchment for the kind of letter you don’t send by phone. By day, lift the full-view glass garage door and let the woods in. By evening, warm the sauna, rinse off under the open sky in the outdoor shower, split a little firewood, and sit by the fire pit as the dark comes down and the stars come up.

Guest Access

The Woodsman and its ten acres are yours for your stay. Self check-in by smart lock. A second private cabin, Shadow Pine, also sits on the property — positioned and screened so both cabins keep their privacy.

Other Things to Note

✔ Secluded back-roads arrival — 4WD/AWD encouraged, especially in winter.
✔ Real wilderness: deer, turkey, occasional black bear; seasonal bugs/ticks — bring bug spray.
✔ A 911 emergency pole connects directly to the Scott County Sheriff; neighbors include a correctional officer and a retired sheriff’s deputy.
✔ A horse trail runs nearby — you’ll hear hoofbeats.
✔ Waiver forms required (wood stove, firewood/wood-cutting station, sauna). Dump ashes outside; littering fee applies.
✔ Check-in 4:00 PM / Check-out 10:00 AM.
