A great experience- room was large. Plenty to do while on the property and only a short drive into Stowe

Bed was a little uncomfortable and pillows were horrible. Flat and did nothing to support head/neck (personal opinion) as others may like this. Staff were not as welcoming as other places we have visited recently……for the type of accomodation it is and cost I was expecting more friendliness. In saying that the porter and the gentleman who was welcoming patrons to the restaurant/lounge on our first night were the the most friendly and made us feel welcomed.

The location is beautiful and the grounds are outstanding. The hotel is old and majestic and better than what I had expected. The room was very clean and well appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Very friendly staff. Our dinner in the dining room was excellent and a good value.

It was quite pricey but worth it, all things considered. The breakfast buffet (not included) was expensive and when we were there a little before 9 AM, things were picked over….no spoons left for cereal, oatmeal was gone, breads/pastries needed to be refreshed. They just need to pay more attention to the entire buffet in my opinion, and keep it looking fresh and well stocked.

Beautiful setting in the mountains of Vermont, delightful decor, fun to connect with the Von Trapp family story and history. The restaurant’s food was superb. The room was very cozy and comfortable. The grounds are breathtaking. We had the good fortune to talk with one of the gardeners who told us more history and special significances.

Front desk staff’s initial unwelcoming response, kerfuffle with keying the room, and mess up with the dinner reservation— with no apologies given or extra help offered— made us wonder if this pricey stay was going to be just a touristy gimmick, instead of the special experience we were expecting. Not one to disparage young people who are learning and trying, but these teenagers were very silly and unprofessional, more interested in each other than being welcoming or helpful. At the end of the stay, we asked the young person running the gift shop if eidelweiss grows on the property. She replied that it only grows in hot dry climates. By then, we just chuckled to ourselves and gently said Well, it grows in Austria.
