The Westgate Hotel

The hotel lobby is very nice and smelled great. The gym across the way with access to classes and rooftop pool/gym/track were amazing!!! The lemon water at the pool was a nice touch. The DJs at the pool during the weekend were great! The “queen” beds/bedding were very comfortable but small for 2 adults. The valet person, Michael, was friendly and helpful at all times.

The location is convenient but many homeless in the vicinity. The trollies beep throughout the night so be prepared. We paid for parking every night for our car which we knew ahead of time, totally fine. One of our day guests wanted to park his motorcycle on the side of the garage and the hotel wanted to charge which was ridiculous. It barely took up any room and would be completely out the way of the valet. The hotel shouldn’t charge, or perhaps a low day rate, for motorcycles or scooters, not a full car rate when valet wouldn’t need to touch or move. The overall staff weren’t very friendly. Also, the hotel should provide water/coffee in the lobby.

We will not stay at the property again because we felt misled by the automatic 18% gratuity. To be clear, our concern is not that an 18% gratuity was charged or that it was automatically added. We always tip and believe it is the right thing to do. Our concern is that the automatic gratuity was not clearly disclosed. As a result, we unknowingly tipped a second time because we had no reasonable indication that gratuity had already been included. The lack of transparency made it feel as though guests could easily be misled into tipping twice—which is exactly what happened to us. We simply believe that if an automatic gratuity is added, it should be clearly and prominently communicated so guests can make informed decisions when paying their bill.
