Incredible Views! Truly Historic Place! Still operated by the original descendants of 8th Maine who served in the Civil War. Rustic but filled with Love!

I loved being in an old historic building and sitting on the porch, looking at the ocean was amazing. The outside shower was incredible. You have a great view of the ocean while washing your hair.

It was generally not super comfortable, especially the bathroom set up where the shower had a flimsy wall right next to a perpetually open door to the rest of the hotel. The bathroom was also not locked off to any extent, just two curtains. Getting to and from the hotel was a hassle from Portland and required a long walk, which isn't horrible, but if you return after dark there is very little lighting as you walk to the hotel. The bedroom was also very uncomfortable and the whole "Eat in the basement" situation was just really spooky, not to mention the Museum element was non-existent in this hotel/museum. All in all, for half the price, I would not have cared too much, but the price tag associated was far too high for the return given.
