The hotel was great, and the staff and rooms were clean.

Friendly staff!
They worked to accommodate our request for early check in. However, the only room (one room?!) available was Room 103 in the basement. It was incredibly dark, with little sunlight. We recognize our request for early check in altered this situation, but the room seemed substandard for $300/night.

We booked this hotel because it is within walking distance of Balboa Park - about 1 mile. The room was clean, bathroom modern and clean. The room is an efficiency with stove, refrigerator, dishwasher which we were not interested in.
The hotel lobby and common area had a deodorizer, lower end accommodation smell. The hotel is on the northern edge of the San Diego downtown which is depressed with many empty storefronts, homeless people sleeping on sidewalks, and empty restaurants.
